Hereditary breast cancer
BRCA and family history: who is genetic testing recommended for?

Hereditary breast cancer is a rare condition usually linked to mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.
Women with first-degree relatives with breast cancer, women diagnosed before age 40 and women with both breast and ovarian cancer are at higher risk. The presence of a mutation can be determined with a gene test.
Women at risk can get genetic counseling, have regular exams and screening and, if needed, consider preventive surgery.
