Granulomatous mastitis
An inflammatory breast disease of unclear cause that can recur. We confirm the diagnosis by biopsy and plan treatment individually according to the course of the disease.

Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis is a rare benign inflammatory breast disease whose cause is not fully understood. It is more common in young women who have given birth.
Its symptoms are pain, hardness and swelling in the breast, a lump in the armpit, redness and fistula-like openings in the breast skin. Imaging supports the diagnosis; a biopsy is needed for the definitive diagnosis.
Treatment options include drugs such as corticosteroids, surgery and hirudotherapy (medical leech therapy). Each patient's treatment is set individually and under physician control.
