Breast cancer surgery
Breast-conserving surgery, mastectomy and axillary surgery. Oncoplastic techniques that aim to preserve the shape of the breast whenever possible.

The main aim of modern breast surgery is to treat breast cancer without losing the breast. Breast-conserving surgery is now accepted as the standard treatment for stage I-II breast cancer.
Mastectomy is preferred for large or widely spread tumors for which breast-conserving surgery is not suitable. The state of the armpit lymph nodes is assessed with a sentinel lymph node biopsy and, if needed, an axillary dissection.
In women with large breasts, cancer surgery and breast reduction can be done at the same time. After breast-conserving surgery the patient must have radiotherapy.
